Talia’s Cardigan

Congratulations to Talia Appleton on winning one of the biggest gravel races in the country on the weekend at Derby in Tasmania - defeating newly-crowned Australian Gravel Champion and World Tour rider, Tiff Cromwell, in the process.

Here are the results.

Shifty Shorty at Anglesea

By Tim Ross

Ben and Tim Ross took part in round 3 of the ‘Shifty Fifty’ season on Saturday. Both took the easy (easier) shorter option, completing a ‘Shifty Shorty’ (25 km).

The course was in the heart of Anglesea, a mixture of single track and gravel roads winding through coastal scrub. A very big field made virtues of both patience and taking passing opportunities when they arose.

The race took place in clear, cool conditions; there were apparently magnificent vistas out into Bass Strait but I was too busy chewing my handlebars to notice.

Ben placed first in the juniors (U19), taking the chocolates, while Tim finished midfield in the open category after managing to take the wrong track twice. The signage was good, refer to the earlier comment re handlebar chewing.

It’s a great, casual and well-run series that is well worth your consideration for some off-season riding.

Next one is at Castlemaine on 1 June - click here for details.
