mountain biking info
Most of the summer mountain bike races, Dirt Crits (for Seniors) and Dirt Critters (for Juniors), are hosted at Riflebutts MTB Park, Riflebutts Road, Mansfield on Tuesdays. Dirt Crits will run from early October until late March except for Melbourne Cup Day and a few weeks off over Christmas/New Year. Check the calendar on the Home page for details of each event.
Dirt Critters (Juniors)
For Primary school-aged kids;
Grade 3 & younger - 4pm, Grade 4 & older - 4.45pm;
Qualified coaches keep it fun, working on skills and technique to build confidence; and
Mostly at Rifle Butts MTB Park, but also uses the single track along Rifle Butts Road and occasionally other venues.
Dirt Crits (Seniors)
For Secondary School kids and older;
Registration at 5.45pm, racing starts at 6pm;
Caters to all abilities - race at your own pace;
Cross country racing one week, Gravity the next;
Cross country racing is usually handicapped, with faster racers also having to ride further, giving all entrants a chance to win; and
Gravity races are usually based on the combined times of two downhill runs (climbing back up to the start isn’t timed) plus they’re handicapped too!
An annual AusCycling membership through MMBCC includes the entry fee for every week and insurance cover. Plus we even offer a FREE 30 day trial membership for first time members!
All entrants must hold a valid AusCycling membership.
Volunteers are needed in order for the races to happen. Dave Empey is the Race Director for Gravity races and Damian Grundy is in charge of Cross Country races; they require weekly assistance from volunteers.
Dirt Crits are weather dependent and may be cancelled prior to, on the day of the event or during the event.
No Dirt Crits at Riflebutts MTB Park on a day of Total Fire Ban.
