Saturday - Rail Trail Opening

The Shire is hosting an official opening of the Mansfield to Bonnie Doon section of the Goulburn River High Country Rail Trail this coming Saturday. Head for the western side of the Bonnie Doon Bridge for a sausage sizzle and refreshments from 11am. There'll be prizes for the most creatively decorated bike or person.
There's a ride to Bonnie Doon leaving from the Visitor Information Centre at 9am.

First Aid during races

One of the things we discussed at the Road Commissaires's meeting in late December was First Aid. Deb Cook, Laura Carter and Margaretanne Hood have met recently to discuss this and would like to put together a procedure so that you can be confident that if you do have a prang during a race, club members around you will be able to look after you until the ambulance arrives.

They've already suggested we upgrade our first aid kits. Then we should write a policy/protocol/procedure so we all know where the first aid kit will be, how to use it, who is qualified to use it and lots more.

So, to start with, there are a couple of questions I'd like to ask each of you:

  • Do you have a first aid qualification? Could you please email me the details? (I know we asked this a year or so ago but this time something will be done with it!)
  • If you're not qualified but would like to be, would you be interested in doing a course if the club organises one?

This is just the start. We will then have to determine how we use this info and ask if those people would be prepared to have their names listed.

The committee will soon also discuss a more detailed (and confidential) list of members. This might include such things as next of kin, relevant medical conditions, allergies, etc. But there are privacy issues involved, so we'll discuss this further before we go ahead. But happy to hear your thoughts in the meantime ...

SHCCC entries

A new order of club kit has been placed with Ventou. So if you want to get the cheap entry into the SHCCC and you don't yet have a full set of club kit, you need to go see Shannon at All Terrain Cycles. If you reserve your kit, or you already have a full set, you can enter the SHCCC for $75 (yes, you'll get the SHCCC jersey! You'll even go into the draw to win the wheels if you enter before the end of February.) But you need to email me to get the discount. Entries will only be open for another couple of weeks. Visit www.shccc.com.au for more info.

BMX track

A detailed plan of the proposed BMX track is due to be finished in the next few days. So we should be able to submit a planning application with the Shire not long after that. It's taken a while but it looks like we're getting somewhere!

Road bike for sale

Tracey Shipley has her Giant road bike for sale. As new, ridden only 20km, Women’s XS. RRP $1200; will sell for $650. Email Tracey Shipley info@highcountrymaze.com.au for more information.

Finally ...

Tim and Nicole Ross are in New Zealand but aren't in Christchurch. They were due to go but I don't think they will be anymore!

That's all for now … see you out there.

Cheers,
