MMBCC News - 20 September 2011. UPDATE

Hi Everyone,

UPDATE - Congratulations to Shannon and Narelle on the arrival of RUBY LEE RADEMAKER. Born Sat 17 Sept at 3.5kg. "Both girls doing exceptionally well, even father doing ok; each grandfather has turned into a gooey, emotional mess! (First grand-child for both!)"

Challenge Ride Times

Mark has worked up a Challenge Rides Time section on the website and it looks great. Well done Mark.

You'll find Tom and Steffan are having a ding dong battle for the Up Buller time of the season. Check it out HERE. (one of them left a little present for the cleaners on the finish line apparently).

Road Riding

The executive are meeting next week to finalise the spring calendar with an eye to starting the season on Thursday the 6th October for road and Monday the 10th for MTN.

Bruce has forwarded me a link on bunch riding and it's an amusing read as well as making some important points with the road season not far away.

Blackburn Cycling Club - Eildon Race

<start email>
Blackburn Cycling Club is putting on a couple of races in the next few weeks and we would like to extend an invitation for other clubs to join in.

Firstly the Damian McDonald Memorial Road race will be held on Sunday 25 September in Eildon.  This race offers a rare opportunity for some decent climbing in a road race.
This race is now on Sunday 25th September, starting at 11am in the centre of the Eildon township. Blackburn CC are proud to be hosting this Combine/Regional road race in memory of BBN Life Member Damian McDonald, who tragically lost his life in the Burnley Tunnel explosion.
The race winds firstly though the picturesque flat lands around the Eildon area and then up through the notorious Skyline hill climb before, what some argue is Victoria's most impressive finish line, a possible sprint atop the Eildon Dam wall.
This race will also constitute Blackburn's Club Championships, though is open to other Club members. Hence, the race will be ridden in Categories, similar to CCCC's recent Club Champs.

Start-line:
Utah Place, Eildon.
11am, staggered starts in Categories.

Finish-line:
The Spillway, Pinnager Rd,
Eildon Dam Wall, Eildon.

Registration/Entries:
Reg. desk open from 10am - 10.45am on the day.
Online entries preferred - provide a volunteer in advance for a 50% discount

The next race we are holding is the 1:20 Time Trial.  This will be on 2 October at 9am starting from Mountain Hwy, The Basin.   The current record for the 6.7km from the Basin to Sassafras is 13:01 set by Trent Lowe.
The 1:20 is used as a measure of fitness by many cyclists in melbourne and is also hugely popular for just blowing the doors off your mates on a Sunday morning.  The opportunity for a timed race comes along once a year and we would be delighted to see lots of riders along to have a crack at a PB.
To enter the 1:20 HILL CLIMB CHAMPIONSHIPS, email the club (raceentry@bbn.org.au) with the following details: Full Name, Male/Female, Club, CA/CV Licence Number, Racing Category (on your licence), Mobile Number, the names of two similar riders and recent results (to assist the handicapper).

Regards,
Ross Hamilton
