Gravity says no to beer and skittles

By Dave Empey

The first gravity enduro was held last Tuesday and it wasn’t all beer and skittles.

Darren Bakker attended, raced one lap and decided that he had survived and didn’t wish to run out of talent on the second lap so went home for a beer.

Damian Grundy had a whoops and injured his thumb, managed to finish but again went home early to assess his injury. Hope you’re OK Damian.

Line honours were taken out by Ryder Chadd, hot on his heels was Blake Riley, then followed by Luke Vivash.

The track was a little more technical than we had done previously. The top 10 riders were separated by less than a minute, racing was tight and no mistakes could be made.

We also saw the reinvigoration of the work boot brigade with Cody and Zac racing in their work attire.

Here are the results.

Next Gravity Enduro will be held at Vanderheydons in two weeks; the top section of the Rookies Cup track will be used - 6pm sharp at the top of the track.

Next week it’s XC.

Limit’s lively Loop

By John Eisner

Another strong field of 18 riders fronted up for the second road race of the 2026/7 summer series, held this time on the Barwite Loop.

Di Condie and John Eisner headed out first in the handicapped format. Di set a solid pace until the Coombesberg but once that was successfully negotiated, a true team effort saw a fast and smooth ride to the finish. With no other contenders in sight, a race report deal was agreed on, and John took the win and the honour of writing the report.

In other news, Allan Gerrans and Tim Hall dropped Steve Curnow near the Barwite Sawmill and continued to chase and pass Judi Duke. The two battled it to the end with Allan earning a credible third place.

It was good to see the Seymour lads back with Fletcher Christiansen placing sixth off a solo Scratch mark and achieving fastest time in the process.

Was also good to see Janine Appleton making up the trio of women racing and Fletcher, Ryder Chadd and Ben Ross all racing at the young and fast end of the club.

Here are the results.

Thank you as usual to our great team of marshals, Commissaires and photographers (Dave Taylor and Alex Green) and to the Mansfield Hotel weekly sponsor with this week’s prize being awarded to David Bock (Happy 60th!!)
