ROOKIE CUP TRACK FOLLOW-UP
A group of MMBCC members volunteered at the Joyride Rookie Cup last weekend and it was a great success. You might have noticed a lot MTBs in town - there was close to 300 entries!
The event was the first in a series focused on young riders, with skill development, participation and fun the primary objectives. It was run by Joyride - which run a variety of events and provides skills coaching - with assistance from MMBCC. The track was designed by Matt Empey, with assistance from his brother Zac and follow up work from Ryder Chadd and Lucas de Vent. Dave and Kate Empey did a heap of work on preparation and logistics. On the day a bunch of people helped out with the club’s barbecue tent, marshaling, driving the shuttles and general logistics. Busy!
The track was at Blue Range - a private property on Rifle Butts Rd that Tamara Watson and Louie van der Heyden have allowed to be used for a number of events over the years. Access to this property is not a given and the club appreciates the privilege.
Unfortunately, after the event a friend of the owners hunting deer on the property came across a bunch of kids riding the track. They and the owners were not aware that people were on site and had not given permission for the track to be used!
Beyond the fact that none of us would appreciate people trespassing in our backyards, there is an obvious safety issue with clashing land uses and the legal exposure to the landowners if any incidents occurred.
If this was you or your kids on site, please DON’T access the property again outside of an advertised event! MMBCC only has access during specific events when we have permission organised with the owners. At all other times it’s OFF LIMITS!
Ruttiman and Ross Results
Over in Canada, Mark Ruttiman is visiting his son and raced in the Revelstoke Gran Fondo, finishing 7th overall in the 100km Medio Fondo.
The handicapper will have to keep an eye on Mark when he gets back here in mid-October!
