The 2022 Mansfield Hotel Tour p/b Orcoda

Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 March 2022

Brought to you by…

In 2022 the Mansfield Mt Buller Cycling Club will host The Mansfield Hotel Tour powered by Orcoda on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 March.

Changes for 2022

A COVIDsafe plan will be in place for the whole weekend. All participants, officials and spectators will be required to maintain social distancing where possible and adhere to the plan.

Stages Two and Three will now start from outside the Mansfield Hotel on Highett Street (it’s from the car park in the median strip of HIghett Street, on the corner of Curia Street.)

The intermediate sprint during Stage Three on Sunday morning has moved further along the road, about 600m, to the Merrijig Motor Inn. (The Stage Two intermediate sprints are still at the Merrijig CFA, same as 2021.)

There’ll be separate grades for Under 19 Women and Under 19 Men. With the new restricted gear rules coming into force, the MMBCC thought Juniors might appreciate competing with their peers on a ‘level playing field’. However, please keep in mind that If entry numbers are not sufficient to run separate grades, Under 19 entrants will race in Elite grades but we’ll still award separate prizes for Under 19s.

And a reminder, not a change: the road to Mt Buller will close at 8am on Sunday morning to all but official event traffic.

Spectator recommendations

Stage 1

  • On top of the “Coombesberg” - the steep pinch on Old Tolmie Road. Riders will be seen twice, once in each direction. But remember, there will be a full road closure for this stage. You either need to drive out before the ITT starts, walk the 4.5km from the start line or walk about 1km from the turnaround.

Stage 2

  • Photographers, get to the top of Corn Hill, near the corner of Buttercup Road and take some great shots of riders climbing up Corn Hill for the QoM/KoM, with Mt Buller in the background.

  • Drive north out of Mansfield along the Whitfield Road, turn right onto Barwite Road, then right again onto Old Tolmie Road. Head up the hill and turn left onto Soldiers Road for parking and cheer them across the line on top of the Coombesberg.

Stage 3

  • Get up to Mt Buller to cheer the riders as they cross the line. But remember, the road will close at 8am at the base of the mountain to all but official race traffic.
