MMBCC News - Christmas Edition

Hi Everyone,

Firstly, Well done to Tina for organising a great Christmas Event last week. The hundred plus members, friends and family who turned up to the Zoo had a great evening.

Apologies, I don’t seem to have a recent MTN report although I did hear the pairs race was attended with enthusiasm.

Next years races will start sooner than you think – Monday 14 Jan for Mountain Bikers, and Thursday 17 Jan for the Roadies.  Keep an eye on the website as the calendar will be out soon. Good training would be to do some of the Clubs Challenge Rides – Stoneflys, Buller, Old Tolmie and Eildon Hill. Josh and Ross have already been active so do the ride and send Mark an email with your best time.

Thanks to our sponsors (as listed on the side of the website). Whenever you can please consider reciprocating their contribution and let them know you are part of the bike club (if appropriate) for their feedback.

Thanks to the exec team who have all been working consistently behind the scenes to keep the club running smoothly. Everyone is really putting in – well done.

Thanks too, to our many volunteers who also keep the club functioning on a weekly basis.

Have a great and safe Christmas.

MMBCC News - 21 November 2012

Hi Everyone,

A Big week for Mitch this week with a good win on our new local course which was enthusiastically raced by 32 other participants ( see Bruce’s report below) and a great win in the  State Mountain Bike Championships (see Fiona’s report below). Well done!!

As I write Tim Ross is forging ahead with 7Peaks7days. Day one saw Bruce and Tim battle snow on Mt Baw Baw with Bruce sustaining an unfortunate hip injury in the slush. He’s hoping to be up and pedalling tomorrow. I joined Tim on Lake Mountain for a leisurely 120km yesterday and he went on to ride over 200km with Mansfield to Buller to Whitfield today. A few more of us will be joining them in Bright for a trip to Omeo and back.

Mountain Biking

The 2012 State XC Championship was held on Sunday 18th November at the Mt Avoca Winery

Mitch placed 1st in the Under 17 Men’s category – winning the State Champion title

Kian placed 3rd in the Under 15 Men’s category – in his first race at a State Championship

So as you can see both boys did extremely well and represented their club tremendously!

The club now has a State XC Champion and a State XC podium place getter amongst their junior members

This is terrific considering the MTB side has only been going for a few years!

And as far as I can see the MTB juniors are only going to get better as times goes on with the depth of membership the club has.

Many thanks, Fiona Greenway

MMBCC News - 6 November 2012

Hi Everyone,

Good to see lots of action at Rifle Butts with some really great racing. The road crew too are getting some good turnouts and it was good to try the time trial over the new Graves Rd course.

Well done to Tina for running around and drumming up some sponsorship prizes which we’ll be giving away over the next few weeks. Consider our sponsors when planning stuff  -  they’re on our website: Alpine Butchery, Delatite Hotel, The Zoo, The Maze as well as All Terrain Cycles, High Country Cycle Challenge, Tour de Flavour and The Deck.

It’d be good to see a few more of our women out there on the road as well. A lot of members feel a little tentative and undertrained to race but Di does a great job handicapping and it’d be good to encourage as many people to participate regardless of anticipated performance.  The road crew have designed shorter races this season so even though you may not feel up to it, have a go.

Road report:

Despite a cool, blustery southerly, twenty three enthusiastic cyclists fronted up for the first individual time trial of the cycling season on the new Graves Road course. With nowhere to hide on the hilly seventeen km course it proved to be a good test early in the season. Allan Gerrans rode off strongly from John Eisner and Rod Stewart and at the turnaround was working his way steadily up the field. Foley Lachal and Laurie Harding were riding with determination and Jock Brega looked smooth as they approached the turnaround. All worked well against the substantial headwind on the return leg and finished in the top five. Christine Hopkins, Tim Ross, Darren Bakker, Mick Feeney and Steve Plummer also had a steady race with good results.

It was Mitch Greenway though who flew down the downwind leg and didn't seem to slow down much after the turnaround at the Broken River. Smashing the field apart he recorded a time two minutes faster than the nearest competitor, Jock, to take the honours for the evening.

All results – CLICK HERE.

Cheers,

John.

MMBCC News - 1 November 2012

Hi Everyone,

Mountain Biking

There was a buzz in the air on Monday night – and it wasn’t just the mosquitos at Riflebutts Reserve. 32 people lined up to race in the handicap race and with a flurry of excitement (and dust!), the race was on.

Sibling rivalry was at its best with Dan and Tom MacMunn chasing each other around the track, almost side-swiping Bella MacMunn on one of the corners – luckily the duty team and onlookers were there to keep them in check (with loud cheers and heckling!). Unnerved, Bella stayed strong and had the last laugh by finishing in the top five. The evening was filled with inter-family competitiveness with Matthew Empey racing against Kate Empey, Rod and Aaron Sargent battling it out until Rod had a mechanical, the Greenway’s powering ahead, along with the Grundy’s, and the Lachal’s also going strong with a team of four racing on the night.

Yully decided to have a pit-stop on every lap after constantly dropping his chain by getting some ‘mad air’ on the jump, pleasing the spectators.

It was a close handicap and very exciting for onlookers. New-comer Glenn Peck raced well along with Ava Kappes, Adrian Lawrence, Brett Stevens, Ben Annear and Kate Empey, all finishing in the top ten. Well done to April Lachal on taking first place, she will definitely be one to watch as the season progresses. Ewan’s “sandbagging” tactics in an earlier race worked, securing him with second, and after his relaxing holiday Flynn Bowker raced well to take third place.

It was great to see more new faces at the Monday night races. If you would like to join in the action make sure you register by 8pm Sunday night to Tom MacMunn 0428 327 763, to assist us with handicapping.

Duty team for Monday 5th November: Rob Greenway, Rachael Grundy, Cam Lachal (Bunting)

MMBCC News - 23 October 2012

Hi Everyone,

Road Racing

Great weather and improving fitness saw twenty three cyclists line up for last Thursday's first handicap race for the season on the Barwite loop course. Daryl Rielly, Dave Clark, David Jagger and Chris Washusen took off first as the limit crew. Getting somewhat spread out up Coombsberg, the bunch realised their only hope of staying out was to stay together so a tactical regrouping ensued down the hill.

Further back, Steve Plummer cleverly managed to jump onto the scratch bunch of Jock Brega, Bruce Halket, Tim Ross and Darren Bakker. Although working hard the bunch couldn't make inroads into the limit group who rode well for Jagger and Washusen's first race. Finally Daryl Rielly was able to Jump Dave Clark and took out a well deserved win. Jock Brega took out fastest time for the evening. Thanks to the Alpine Butchery for the gutsiest effort prize which went to David Jagger who placed third.

The Club Only Membership forms have now appeared online and can be downloaded from the following page on Cycling Australia's website:

Mountain Biking

A horde of 41 riders descended on Riflebutts Reserve for the third race in the spring-summer MTB dirt-crits series.

With 13 eager contestants there was no holding back in the kids race.

So fierce was the competition that when Jamieson McNamara crashed, his sister Ebony rode straight over him. Thankfully, there were no hard feelings or lasting injuries!

The adults race was equally competitive and saw all riders finishing within one lap of each other.

Tom MacMunn and Mitch Greenway steamed around the course completing six laps, but couldn’t reach the podium thanks to some tough Irish handicapping.

In a mixed night for the MacMunns, Paula put in an impressive effort to finish fifth, while young Bella showed guts by completing her lap despite injuring a finger.

Fourth place went to Foley Lachal, third to Trev Arnold, and second and first were nabbed by Paul MacNamara and Tod Howland.

Duty roster is now up on the website. Please have a look for when you are rostered on. If you cannot make it, please arrange to swap with another person. Once arranged, please advise Katie Moore of change.Monday nights at Riflebutts Reserve. Kids races register at 5:15pm for 5:30pm race,Adults register at 5:45 for 6:00pm race.

See you next week!

FInal Call!
So far we have one person keen to ride in the M2M 2013 (Murray to Moyne). If there are a few more prepared to commit then we can run with the event otherwise we will opt for plan B ......

Plan B might look like a "round the lake" or other club based ride that we will use to fundraise for the hospital. Plan B could be a good option. Please get back to me with your ideas/wishes.

MMBCC News - 9 October 2012

Hi Everyone

We’re off and running with a good turnout at the Dirt Crits on Monday night. The calendar is up on the website ready to view or print. Road racing starts this Thursday and the first Kids MTB race is next Monday. Good luck everyone.

This from Fiona:

MMBCC Dirt Bike Crits

Mansfield’s Rifle Butts MTB Park came alive on Monday 8th October with Mansfield Mount Buller Cycling Club holding its first race for the 2012/2013 season. The MTB Park looked fantastic after Shannon Rademaker, Yully Arnold and Laurie Harding rallied a willing band of helpers on the previous Sunday to do track maintenance, weed reduction work and a general overall clean up of the area. A huge thank you to all who attended and put in the effort to get the course ready for the first race!

A field of 17 riders turned out with 11 adults and 6 juniors contesting the “Irish Handicap”. The race is held with all riders on the course at the same time, racing a set amount of laps depending on their ability and going off handicapped times. This gives all riders an equal chance to finish on the podium. Nick Howland like many riders admitted it was the first time they had been on the bike for a few months so the race was always going to be tough going for some.

First rider off Mitch Greenway had to cover 6 laps of the course. Three minutes later in time waves over the next eleven minutes the rest of the field were sent out with less laps to do and hopefully to finish before anyone else. Junior girls Ava Kappes and Bella MacMunn certainly showed they weren’t going to let racing against adults stop them from riding hard and completing their laps in consistent times and with huge smiles on their faces.

With all riders on the course at the same time it was hard to tell who was leading the race. Katie Moore and Paula MacMunn rode well and Chris Morecroft kept a constant tempo over his laps. John Eisner powered away from Dave Bock and Yully was left behind by Cam & Foley Lachal. Coming into the final lap, 15 of the 17 riders were down to their last lap. Tom MacMunn increased his speed but would it be enough? The race had been handicapped perfectly.

In his first race for the club Adrian Lawrence was pleased to come away the winner. Showcasing his Downhill skills Lawrence Prendergast looked to have second position in the bag 100 meters from the line. Taking the inside line of the final corner Mitch Greenway came through for second with Lawrence claiming third place. Foley Lachal rode hard to secure fourth place coming in ahead of Dad Cam in 9th. Frank David rode well to come 5th with Tom MacMunn, Rob Greenway, John Eisner and Nick Howland filling the top 10 positions.

The club holds races on Monday nights at the Rifle Butts MTB Park with Kids races starting at 5.30pm and Adults races starting at 6pm. The club welcomes new members and encourages everyone to come along and watch a race!

The first road race will be on Thursday albeit with a fairly cold looking forecast.

You can now also renew your MTN and Road licences online. It’s fairly straightforward and by doing it online you can choose the value add option of joining the “other discipline” ie if you usually hold a road licence you can choose to add a mountain bike licence at a discount and vice versa. If you are a roadie, you’ll have to renew your CA licence first ( for 2013) before doing the MTBA value add as you will need the receipt as proof for MTBA.

Most road members signed up last year for the club only deal which will be available again this year. It’s significantly cheaper than signing online but you can only race in Mansfield or Wangaratta, you can’t sign up online (we will have forms and prices before the end of the year) and you can’t value add.

Thanks again to our sponsors: Alpine Butchery and the Delatite Hotel for supporting last night’s event.

Cheers , John.

MMBCC News - 29 September 2012

Hi Everyone,

The subcommittees are putting the final touches on what look like an exciting season for both Road, Social and Mountain but the bulk of it is now up and running on the website as well as a downloadable summer calendar.

A couple of other things:

New Sponsor

Dave and Carol of Alpine Butchery have kindly agreed to be a club sponsor for the season. Please go in and thank them for their kind sponsorship (and purchase your supplies). CLICK HERE for their web site.

Murray to Moyne

Jenny Lovick is looking for an initial show of interest for next year’s Murray to Moyne. We need to get four people who are interested in participating to be able to complete the initial entry form – then all the organising and getting a team together can be done at a later date for this fun weekend. Jenny Lovick

Traffic Controller course

We need more volunteers to get qualified traffic controllers for Tour de Flavour.

Shire is considering paying for a course on Saturday October 27.

The course will run for about 6 hours and will likely be held at the Council offices in Highett Street. There will be no cost to participants and even lunch will be provided.

But before we can book the course, we need some people to put their hands up to do the course.

The qualifications would see them be available to help out at other events such as the High Country Festival and Targa High Country, if they're interested. It's even the first step necessary to get paid work as a marshal at events like Targa.

Please email Bruce - bruce@bikevents.com.au - or call him on 0419 533 120.

Also, a reminder to all those that got their qualifications last year to please make themselves available for the 2013 Tour de Flavour, 16 & 17 March. It was a struggle to get enough volunteers for the TdF weekend earlier this year and we'd really appreciate traffic marshals being available - if only to save John Lithgow and Bruce from heart problems!

Similarly, Nicole Nye is looking for volunteers to help at the November Festival. If you did the traffic management course last year and can help – let her know.

The High Country Festival requires volunteers to assist with road closures for the Torchlight Parade & Fireworks display on Friday 02 Nov 7.00 to 9.30pm
&
Grand Parade on Saturday 03 Nov 10am to 12.30pm
Greatly appreciate your assistance

MMBCC News - 13 September 2012

Hi everyone,

The spring/summer season is just around the corner so for a few of us there’s still a chance to locate the bike, remove the dust and get a few k’s going. We’ll have a calendar up soon with a series of exciting races for both road and mountain so keep an eye on the site. Well done to the subcommittees who have been working hard behind the scenes to get these going.

Before we get into other stuff I’d like to mention the winter series. Di did a great job in getting these fun little Saturday arvo races going and thanks to her and the volunteers who turned up each week to help. The club executive held its monthly meeting last night. As noted, the road and mtn subcommittees have been working on the calendar. The high performance grant was discussed in detail with guidelines for submissions to be released after the October meeting for a December 31st deadline.

We’re also looking for a few more potential commissaires. It’s not too hard to become accredited and with a couple more, the roster will be less onerous for all the officials. If you are keen please contact Bruce.

MMBCC News - 7 August 2012

Hi Everyone,

Hopefully we'll see most of you on Thursday night at the AGM. (6.00pm at The Produce Store).

Tim has sent me a draft version of the financials to post for your perusal prior to the AGM. He has done a lot of work to present the figures in both a profit and loss format for 2012 and a comparative receipts and payments format for the last 3 years. Thanks Tim. The figures are a draft version subject to an external audit being carried out currently. (See the end for details.)

Also of note was another great road race in the winter series last Saturday.  Euan Friday made a guest appearance and found his previous handicap mark tough going but still achieved a top ten placing. John Lithgow similarly was lulled into ninth by the pleasant afternoon sun. Darren Bakker, Jock Brega, Tom MacMunn and Bruce Halket worked hard to fill 8th to 5th respectively, with a solid sprint to the line for Bruce to head that bunch. Steve Plummer, having dropped Lithgow and Friday, worked alone and hard to try and catch the limit group of Cam Lachal, Craig Wilson and myself, but with smooth rotations it was too much to ask.

Finally Will completed a good turn and thanks to some remnant of road tactics (and generous handicap) , I was able to hold off Cam with Will quietly sneaking up on Cam as well for a good second place. Big thanks again to Di, Tim, Jen and to the rest of the crew for support. It's on again this Saturday, 1.30 for 2pm at the Botanical Park.

MMBCC News - 2 August 2012

Hi Everyone,

Quite a few things to have a good look at prior to the AGM on the 9th ( See agenda below). It  will be good to see you all there. Have a bit of a read of the following documents and bring along your thoughts. I’ve been speaking to our members and there’s lots of ideas and enthusiasm out there. There will be nibbles provided on the night from 6pm and as usual the opportunity to stay and have dinner.

It seems there is also an enthusiastic crew available to potentially fill the executive positions that will be declared vacant on the night and are open to re-election.  Please have a look at the position description document and nominate someone or be nominated if you want to be involved.

A few of the club will know that one of our senior riders, Ray Watson, was injured recently whilst cycling and is recovering well in Wangaratta. We sent him a card and look forward to him getting back on the bike. Drop in and say G’Day if you are over in Wang. George Chalk has his details.

Well done to those who made it to last Saturday’s race and thanks to the volunteers. Results:

DRAFT

Accumulated funds management policy.

The MMBCC (The Club) should set subscriptions and race fees such that costs are covered with an appropriate  excess to allow for regular expenditure (advertising, CA/MBA Fees etc.)

Excess funds will be retained in the clubs general account. Prior to the AGM a budget shall be prepared with an indication of the financial position of the club and amount of excess funds available or expected to be available. The executive may decide , if few funds are available or if items are not required, to redirect funds into other items listed below. Funds will be spent in accordance with the following guidelines:

1/ High performance grant:

Mansfield Mt Buller Cycling Club is proud to be able to offer a high performance grant in the amount of $2000.00 per calendar year.

The following criteria must be met by the successful applicant.

  • ·
  • ·
  • ·
  • ·
  • ·
  • ·

The sponsorship should be $2000.00 and should ideally be directed towards a specific item, Eg. Accommodation, airfares, a bike.

2/Club Functions:

Excess funds should be spent to offset the costs of the Christmas and End of season functions. An amount of 20% of available funds should be reserved for these items.

3/Rider development-coaching: Including commissaire development, traffic control development and individual or group development . An amount of 20% of available funds should be reserved for this item.

4/Capital expenditure:

The committee may, from time to time, purchase an item for the benefit of the club. 20% of the available funds may be utilised for this purpose.  The executive will consult with general membership via the website for feedback as to the appropriateness of the item prior to purchase. Items costing more than 50% of the available funds must be ratified by the majority of the attending membership (or by proxy) at either the AGM or by special meeting.

5/Event development:

Funds accumulated from Club events may also be retained to promote and develop future events. An amount of 20% of available funds may be allocated to this.

Funds may be raised specifically for an item or an event. Prior to the fundraising the item or event and the intended amount and timeframe must be submitted to an executive meeting and recorded in the minutes. Funds raised will be retained in the general account and the treasurer shall note the amount and the timeframe for distribution when the funds are required.

Grants received shall be treated in the same manner as funds raised. Grants will usually have a specific time frame and reporting requirements.

MMBCC News - Friday 20 July 2012

Hi Everyone,

Another good Saturday race last weekend with Melbourne cyclist Scott Gigante taking the honours over Darren Bakker and Jock Brega. Thanks to those who turned up to help as well. Again there will be another race this Saturday, 1.30 for 2pm and with planets aligning and layers of dust removed from my bicycle, hopefully I will have a run as well.

The executive had the last of our monthly meetings last night prior to:

The AGM , to be held at 6 for 6.30pm on Thursday the

9th of August 2012 at the Produce Store.

As there is no Murray to Moyne presentation  we are hopping straight into business after a few pre meeting nibbles with dinner during/after for those who want to eat.

We are very keen to seek feedback from all club members  on any aspect of the club so I ask that in the upcoming weeks you give some thought to things you think the club should be doing and/or things that have worked well.  There will be an opportunity to raise this in special business on the night or in general business for items submitted to myself or Katie Moore prior to July 27th 2012 for inclusion in the Agenda which will be posted on the website shortly thereafter.

The club has accumulated a moderate amount in the general account and part of the discussion on the night will involve investigating mechanisms for the use of these funds. The executive have formulated proposals for such mechanisms and part of this will involve requests for specific items to spend money on. So again, have a think, and bring your ideas to the meeting.

As usual, the executive and subcommittee positions will be declared vacant. Over the year, the executive have developed a position and responsibility document which I include below. Have a look at it and consider nominations which can be submitted to Katie or myself or raised on the night. It has been one of the aims of the executive to give full responsibility to the subcommittees for the running of their individual functions and to this end, the road subcommittee has  begun work on next season’s program with the Mountain crew already providing an autonomous program.

Cheers, John.

MMBCC News - 22 June 2012

Hi Everyone,

It’s pretty cold at the moment and I suspect that’s limited a bit of cycling activity although I hear it’s pretty nice in British Colombia at the moment. At least the Tour is not far away for a string of late nighters.

A few bits of interest have been posted to me and I’ve included them below.

I know Di is working on a winter race program so keep an eye on the website for that and check out our Facebook page for bits and pieces that are happening.

The Executive are still meeting monthly ( next meeting 18th July). We’re hoping to get some feedback on several issues prior to the AGM in August and again we’ll have some detailed requests coming out soon.

Bicycling Australia would like to invite the Mansfield Mt Buller Cycling Club to take part in our Every Second Counts Challenge—a global Strava Challenge that aims to engage with cyclists and motivate them to ride.
I was hoping you could pass on the following information to the club and encourage them to take part.
As you may be aware, Strava is a social media for cyclists, allowing them to record, upload and share rides and also take part in global competitions.
The challenge is to ride 1,788km in a month starting straight after the Tour de France. From 23 July to 21 August riders from all over the world will be competing for ultimate bragging rights and their name in Bicycling Australia’s Honour Roll, Nov/Dec issue #178. Plus for Australian residents only we have over $19,000 worth of prizes to give away through our Facebook page promotions.
So why 1,788Km? Since the First Fleet dropped anchor at Sydney Cove in 1788, it’s as if Australians have been fulfilling some innate mission to achieve.
From brothers Richard and Clarence Smith inventing their stump-jump plough, to the development of Internet Wifi by John Sullivan’s CSIRO team, many remarkable Australians have realised their ambition, with dogged determination and style. To be sure, every moment of the past 224 years is crammed with unheralded personal achievement or famous inventions.
Agriculture and technology aside, Aussies have a proud heritage of glorious achievement on two wheels; Opperman, Mockridge, Peiper, Anderson, Meares, and the outstanding Cadel Evans, to name just a few.
Strava is a great way to sharpen your resolve, to make the most of every moment in the saddle, whether charging along the flats or stomping in the hills—alone or in a bunch. It’s a great way to train, compete, improve and succeed.
Together let’s celebrate the ‘noblest invention’ and sheer bloody-minded determination in Bicycling Australia’s Every Second Counts Challenge.
Just for joining Every Seconds Counts, every rider will receive a digital copy of Bicycling Australia magazine. There are also great prizes for completing each 25%, 50% and 75% milestone.
If you’d like to get involved please sign up to the challenge at http://bicyclingaustralia.com.au/every-second-counts/ and invite your friends through our Facebook event
The start date of the Every Second Counts Challenge is 32 days away, which leaves plenty of time to make plans around this event. Get involved in four ways.
· Start an Every Second Counts Bunch Ride.
· Print and display the Every Second Counts Challenge poster.
· Include the logo and link about the Every Second Counts Challenge in your weekly email newsletters, or on your Facebook page.
· Encourage your club members to join and prepare for the Every Second Counts Challenge.
$19,000.00 in Prizes
· Two sets of ENVE wheels, one pair road, one MTB, total value $7200
· Schwalbe tyres, total value $2500
· Oakley Radarlock sunglasses, total value $4500
· Garmin Edge 500s w/HRM & cadence, total value $5000
The prizes are part of a photo and video competitions for Every Second Counts Challenge riders, so the rider with the biggest legs or most time on their hands won’t necessarily win!
Thanks for your support. I hope you enjoy the Every Second Counts Challenge.

Cycling Victoria is looking for Commissaires to become assessors and help increase the number of Commissaires throughout Victoria.

I apologies for the late notice, however there is a Facilitator and Assessor Training Programs: on this weekend the 23rd of June

The course run by VicSport is aimed at your Coach/Official Course Presenters who will deliver cycling
accredited courses. Attendees will leave with a much clearer understanding of the skills of a facilitator and will
have plenty of opportunity to hone those skills.

• Courses will be held at Victoria University from 8:30am to 5:00pm
• Cost will be $150 but Cycling Victoria will cover the cost for the day
• Maximum of 20 people per program so make sure you notify us as soon as possible of the
number you wish to put through the programs.

Please reply by the 21/06/2012 !!!!!!! if you wish to part take in this course.

Also let me know your interest in becoming a commissaire assessor and we will put you through the course at a later date.

Kind Regards,

--

This from Rod Squires,

I thought I’d put this out there in case anyone was interested:

Hi
I am a member of RoadSafe North East committee and we are currently working on a project called "Cycle Safety in the North East". I am writing to you as I know that you are involved in the cycling public in Mansfield.

Our group has recently conducted a survey on bike safety and hazards of bike riders throughout the North East area (I don't know if anyone in Mansfield has been involved) which was conducted by Nolan Media of Wangaratta. The results should be out shortly. I have attached a copy of the survey for your information.

Our group now wish to conduct a forum of interested people at Benalla on Monday June the 18th at 6.30 pm at the Toyota Dealership. We hope to get an array of interested people from across the region including Mansfield where I know there is a strong contingent of riders. I will also be contacting Paula Allen as I know that she rides as well. Would you please be able to recommend someone or more from your area to represent Mansfield at the forum and who are interested in improving the safety of bike riders..

A light meal will be supplied at thestart of the forum and we hope to have about 30-40 interested people involved. The findings will form the basis on where we will concentrate our resources over the next couple of years in an effort to improve safety for those cycling on our roads.

Thanks for your help and I look froward to hearing from you.

Cheers

Hi Everyone,

This weekend

Saturday

There is a bunch of us heading to Beechworth Saturday morning for a 'reccie' ride before the Six Hours In The Saddle race (12 May). A couple of hard core laps followed by woodfired pizza and a well-earned beer at the Beechworth Brewery. Anyone interested in joining let Katie (0415 369 297) know and we'll arrange a car pool. Sweet!

Below is a reminder for the Black and Tan race on this weekend.  If you are planning to race, please be at the Roadhouse by 9.30 so we can do all the handicapping and preparations for a 10am start.

Sunday 29 April (this Sunday!) - the Black & Tan

Here is the course - /maps/mansfield-ride-maps/ - scroll down to number 9 - starting at the BP Roadhouse and finishing on Graves Road.

Total distance of 31km includes two 3.5km sections of dirt, so about a quarter on dirt, three quarters on tarmac.

Bruce has donated a prize for the winner: a free entry into the 2013 SHCCC including jersey and bib knicks. Thanks Bruce!!

Then when you’ve done that………….

Sunday 12pm

Love your Trail clean-up day prior to Dirt Crits. Starts @ 12.00pm at Rifle Butts Reserve. Bring a rake, gloves and a rakehoe if you have one. It’s mainly clearing sticks and stuff off the track.

Then at 1.45………….. Autumn series of Dirt Crits. Kids races: 1:45pm register for 2pm start. Adults races: 2:15pm register for 2:30pm start. Mix of “Irish Handicap” & graded scratch races. Compete in four races to be eligible for prize draw.

Next weekend

Sunday 6 May (Sunday week) - Eildon Social Road Ride

Slight change of destination - the only decent place we can find for lunch is the Dairy Cafe in Alexandra.

So, let's change the ride to start in Alex, stop in Eildon for coffee at the Eildon Bakery Cafe (got a nice looking balcony out the back) and back to Alex for lunch at the Dairy. Meet at the Dairy café , Mansfield end of the main street,  for a 10am start (ie we’ll start riding at 10am). Please be mindful of the Café’s customers and park appropriately. If you are planning on going can you give Margaretanne a txt on 0417389249.

Here are the three options:.

Option A - 50km - difficult.

This uses the UT Creek Road from Alex to Eildon, so there' s bit more climbing and some sensational views over the lake. After a coffee, back along the relatively flat main road back to Alex. Or if you wanted to make it harder you could return via UT Creek Road!

Option B - 50km - intermediate.

This uses the Eildon Back Road between Thornton and Eildon, then the main road on the way back between Eildon and Thornton.

Option C - 25km - easy.

Park your car at Thornton, ride to Eildon via the back road, then the main road back to Thornton. Jump in the car and drive back to Alex for lunch.

MMBCC News-26 April 2012

Hi Everyone,

This weekend

Saturday
There is a bunch of us heading to Beechworth Saturday morning for a 'reccie' ride before the Six Hours In The Saddle race (12 May). A couple of hard core laps followed by woodfired pizza and a well-earned beer at the Beechworth Brewery. Anyone interested in joining let Katie ( 0415 369 297 ) know and we'll arrange a car pool.
